Celebrating over Twenty Years
of Temporary Relief for Caregivers!

There are twice as many families needing respite and companionship as there are volunteers to serve.  Your help will always be needed and appreciated!

CAIR is a program of RSVP of Lansing.  If you are in need of a volunteer or are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact the CAIR program at 517-887-6116 or by E-mail (Click Here).

 




  • Give welcome relief to family caregivers FREE OF CHARGE
  • Become companions and friends to local caregivers and homebound seniors
  • Enable caregivers to take a break from daily pressures and responsibilities
  • Visit the home two to four hours per week
  • Help by providing friendly companionship which may include activities such as
    reading, letter writing, listening and playing games




Respite Program

CAIR Volunteers Provide:

  • Weekly Break for full time family caregiver. Many caregivers use this time to run essential errands or a relaxing activity
  • Companionship for a chronically ill, homebound elder or disabled adult
  • Socialization, simulation, and support

Friendly Visiting Program

CAIR Volunteers Provide:

  • Assistance to homebound, chronically ill seniors who live alone. Activities can include things such as grocery shopping, helping around the house, etc.
  • Companionship
  • Socialization, stimulation, and support

 

Can I Be A Volunteer?

  • Any adult, of any age, male or female, can be a volunteer 

  • No experience is necessary, but a training session is required

  • Couples can enjoy sharing a volunteer experience

  • Many volunteers are students, retirees, or employed full-time

  • Volunteers are needed in all phases of the CAIR Program, including clerical, client assessment, and coordination of area sites

Do I Need Any Special Skills?

  • All volunteers attend a training session which offers information on:

  • Physical, mental and social conditions experienced by those needing constant care

  • Communication and listening

  • Volunteer ethics

  • Understanding caregiver concerns

  • Available community resources
